Pokemon Go Gym

Bellsprout, Hoothoot, and Vulpix; Oh My!

The trails around the castle grounds are home to lots of Pokemon! Grass and flying types abound near the Visitor's Center but ghost, fire, and more have been known to hang out near the Train Tunnel and around Grand Central Stattion.

There are four PokeStops on the grounds as well as a Gym at the Castle itself. The surrounding area is also rich with additional Stops and Gyms. A full list of trails is available here - Hiking in the park is available until sunset each day, depending on the weather.

Get out and explore! Dratini have been known to pop up along the Outdoor Arts Trail that runs from the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry up to the Castle. Some of the businesses along Town Street and Ferry Road also are PokeStops. Visiting Gillette Castle can be a fabulous day trip with all that East Haddam has to offer.

Live Theater

Theater the way Gillette would have wanted:

Live theater comes to the front lawn of Gillette Castle in the summer. Through the months of July and August the East Haddam Stage Company performs their own original play, "William Gillette: From Senator's Son to Super Sleuth!". Chronicle the life of William Gillette, this one-part biography, one-part comedy is the perfect entertainment during an afternoon at the park.

The outdoor performance takes place on a stage located just behind the Grand Central Station where Gillette's miniature railroad would depart from for rides around the grounds. Near the stage by the seating lawn is also a section of track from the original trail line.

The performances take place on weekends only, and run twice per day. Please visit the East Haddam Stage Company's website to confirm the dates and times of the performances.

Sherlock's Grill

Adjacent to the Visitor's Center is Sherlock's Grill.
Delicious food awaits you after an afternoon of exploring the castle and grounds.
The delicious, fresh-cooked and family-friendly food even features ingredients
grown at local East Haddam farms.

Other Special Activities

It is not uncommon or unusual to see
weddings, funerals, picnicking and more on the grounds of the park.
